To preserve the heritage of the island and make it accessible to the public by creating a museum in a restored 18th century fort in the town of Chake Chake.

The island of Pemba on the Swahili coast was a popular destination for sea faring traders and conquering dynasties resulting in a wealth of historical sites, artifacts, and documents.
