Grant Description

To support the preservation of 20th century video recordings of cultural expressions and to make new recordings of oral traditions and performing arts. Traditionally Samoan was only an oral language; missionaries introduced written language.

The narrations, chants, songs, and oratory poetry were the original means of recorded history, and will be lost with the passing of the oldest generation, without documentation.
