Grant Description

Funds will facilitate the conservation and maintenance of the Gambian National Council for Arts and Culture's renowned oral history collection. The collection consists of over 6000 reel-to-reel, cassette tapes, transcripts dating from the early 20th century.

The full specturm of the Afro-European encounter in The Gambia, from colonization through World War II, independence and the present is represented in this collection.
