On June 27, 2005, ZTE and the Mali Telecom Company (SOTELMA) held a signing ceremony the project to expand and upgrade the CDMA2000 1X WLL network in Mali.

The new contract will add 6000 lines to the existing network in Barmako and bring coverage to Mopti, Segou, Sikasso, and Tombouctou.

The total project cost was $2.35 million, with a donation equipment from ZTE covering about 60% (approximately $1.41 million) of the cost. The remaining funding will come from SOTELMA. The project was implemented in October, 2005. Loan applications and disbursements are still being received and processed as the projects continue to evolve.

Ongoing monitoring and evaluation are in place to ensure project continuity.
