In 2005, the Government of China donated $203,021 to the World Health Organization (WHO) to Indonesia for the re-establishment of the Health Information System in response to the 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami.
According to the WHO, the project aimed to "re-build the most essential components of the health information system and to re-establish the information network in Aceh and North Sumatra for disease surveillance, disease prevention and provision of health services and distribution of resources." Loan applications and disbursements are still being received and processed as the projects continue to evolve.
Ongoing monitoring and evaluation are in place to ensure project continuity.
