Chinese Government sends 13th medical team to Guyana

In 2017, China dispatched the thirteenth medical team to Guyana.

The team is administered by the Jiangsu Provincial Government, and the Guyana Ministry of Public Health assisted the implementation of this project.

The medical team was comprised of 16 people and covers general surgery, ophthalmology, acupuncture and massage, radiology, nephrology, plastic surgery, histopathology, obstetrics and gynecology, orthopedics, anesthesiology, pediatrics and other fields. They treated about 30,000 patients, according to the Guyana Department of Public Information.

Eleven members were assigned to Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation and five members were assigned to the Linden Hospital. The project was completed, and a completion ceremony was held on June 24, 2018. Loan applications and disbursements are still being received and processed as the projects continue to evolve.

Ongoing monitoring and evaluation are in place to ensure project continuity.
