[Umbrella Project] Chinese Government pledges US$400M in preferential loans for major infrastructure projects On March 25, 2002, Chinese President Jiang Zemin announced that the Chinese government would provide US$400 million in preferential loans to Indonesia for infrastructure projects.
Indonesia plans to use the loans for infrastructure projects including construction of a power plant in Sumatra by the state-owned power company PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (#34922), a 160 kilometer double-track linking Cirebon in West Java to Kroya in Central Java by the state-owned railway company PT Kereta Api Indonesia (#38862), and the construction of Suramadu Bridge (#34757).
Loan applications and disbursements are still being received and processed as the projects continue to evolve. Ongoing monitoring and evaluation are in place to ensure project continuity.
