Grant Description

On September 16th, 2019, the Solomon Islands decided to cut diplomatic ties to Taiwan and switch to recognizing China, after previous lobbying from Beijing and the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation, which promised $500 million in loans and grants.

The money is said to be for infrastructure projects across the island, including a gold mine (Record ID#64960), a sports stadium (Record ID#65020), and a slush fund for MPs (Record ID#67378). Loan applications and disbursements are still being received and processed as the projects continue to evolve.

Ongoing monitoring and evaluation are in place to ensure project continuity.
