On May 23, 2014, the Chinese government agreed to send the 7th medical team to the Port Moresby General Hospital.
The agreement for the placements was signed in the Chinese Embassy in Port Moresby, by China's Ambassador to Papua New Guinea, Li Ruiyou, and Papua New Guinea's Secretary of Health, Pascoe Kase. The team arrived in 2014.
Over the one year mission, the ten person team wants to focus on training the local medical staff and provide specialist medical support.
This series of medical missions began after the then Chinese Ambassador to PNG, Zhao Zhenyu, discussed PNG's extreme need for medical doctors in 2000. Loan applications and disbursements are still being received and processed as the projects continue to evolve. Ongoing monitoring and evaluation are in place to ensure project continuity.
