On December 1, 2008, the Cambodian Ministry of Foreign Affairs approved the $2,898,500 Chinese government grant for a Feasibility Study Project on the Missing Link Section of Trans-Asia Railway in Cambodia, known as 柬埔寨境内巴登-斯诺尔缺失段可行性研究工作 in Chinese. The study was carried out by the China Railway Group.
According to a CDC report, this project began on December 1, 2008, and was completed on December 30, 2009.
This project was located in Banteay Meanchey and Battambang Province ("Project/Program Information and Implementation Arrangements").
The study has estimated a final cost at between $500 million and $600 million for the project, due primarily to the high number of bridges that would have to be built across the Mekong Delta and its many tributaries. Loan applications and disbursements are still being received and processed as the projects continue to evolve.
Ongoing monitoring and evaluation are in place to ensure project continuity.
