Grant Description

On April 26 2017, according to Xinhua, China granted the World Food Program (WFP) $10 million to bolster its humanitarian mission in Somalia that helps 6 million people in food insecure conditions because of drought (UNOCHA: Financial Tracking Service Flow ID: 157185 and 157187).

Laurent Bukera, WFP Director in Somalia, said the funds will allow the UN food agency to deploy emergency humanitarian assistance to more than 200,000 people.

The handover ceremony took place on April 26th, 2017 and it seems that the grant is at least in part consisting of physical humanitarian equipment such as tents, mosquito nets, and water tanks. Loan applications and disbursements are still being received and processed as the projects continue to evolve.

Ongoing monitoring and evaluation are in place to ensure project continuity.
