China grants 250,000 ST$ to Samoa's Tsunami Relief & Rehabilitation Fund

In September 2009, an 8.1 magnitude earthquake hit the Samoan islands and triggered a tsunami, causing substantial damage and loss of life. The Government of Samoa established a tsunami relief and rehabilitation fund, to which China contributed.

According to the report prepared by the Government of Samoa, China granted 250,125.06 Samoan tālā (ST$) to Samoa's "2009 Tsunami Relief & Rehabilitation Fund" in 2009. The money was directly deposited into the Fund for disaster relief. Loan applications and disbursements are still being received and processed as the projects continue to evolve.

Ongoing monitoring and evaluation are in place to ensure project continuity.
