In 2016, the Chinese government helped to fund construction of four disaster evacuation centers in the Salima, Nsange, Karonga, and Mangqi areas of Malawi.
The project was jointly funded by the United Nations Development Programme under the disaster relief small grant program. Each center could protect 300 people in an emergency. This project is likely financed from the UNDP Disaster Risk Reduction project recorded in #58234. Loan applications and disbursements are still being received and processed as the projects continue to evolve.
Ongoing monitoring and evaluation are in place to ensure project continuity.
