Grant Description

According to the Kenya National Assembly Official Record (Hansard) from July 6, 2006, the Chinese government provided a grant of 1.5 billion KSH to Kenya for improvement of the road from the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) to the United Nations Environmental Programmes (UNEP) headquarters in Gigiri.

China Road and Bridge Corporation was chosen to carry out the works, including an additional lane. The road is 22km long. The project was officially launched in July 2007, and the construction period was from Aug. 2007 to Jun. 2009. The project is completed according to a Vision 2030 document. Loan applications and disbursements are still being received and processed as the projects continue to evolve.

Ongoing monitoring and evaluation are in place to ensure project continuity.
