China donates rice worth 18 million RMB to Lesotho (Linked to Record ID#56180, #56182, #56196, #56200, #56081, #55829, #56178)

In December 2015, the President of Lesotho declared a state of emergency due to the El Nino-induced drought and called on the Chinese government to help mitigate the intensifying food insecurity among Masotho families.

In response, China donated 18 million RMB (42.4 million M) which was spent on 2,477 metric tons of parboiled rice and officially handed over on 7 September 2016. Loan applications and disbursements are still being received and processed as the projects continue to evolve. Ongoing monitoring and evaluation are in place to ensure project continuity.
