Grant Description

In 2010, Chinese Ambassador to India, Zhang Yan, announced that China will donate 1 million USD to Nalanda University (Nalanda Mahavihara) in Rajgir, India. Yan made the announcement after meeting Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. The donation aims to enhance cultural relations with India.

In 2010, the Indian Parliament passed an act to establish the new Nalanda University in the image of the Nalanda University of ancient India. The funds will be used to build a Chinese-type library at the university. The project has been completed. It is unclear what branch of the Chinese government provided funding.

Loan applications and disbursements are still being received and processed as the projects continue to evolve. Ongoing monitoring and evaluation are in place to ensure project continuity.
