China donates $1 million USD to UNHCR for humanitarian relief in Afghanistan

Extreme winter weather conditions in 2016 hurt vulnerable populations, particularly refugees, in Afghanistan.

According to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) Financial Tracking Service (flow ID #155131), on 28 February 2017, the Chinese government responded by committed a $1 million USD donation to the UN Higher Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) for the Humanitarian Response Plan for Afghanistan.

The grant agreement provided that the UNHCR was responsible for the purchase, transport and deliver humanitarian aid materials. Loan applications and disbursements are still being received and processed as the projects continue to evolve. Ongoing monitoring and evaluation are in place to ensure project continuity.
