Grant Description

In June 2016, China agreed to grant Uganda 30.8 billion Ugandan shillings (9.2 million USD) to implement a Mandarin Chinese curriculum in Ugandan schools.

This agreement comes after the Ugandan Education Minister, Jessica Alupo, proposed the idea at a Beijing summit in May 2016.

The Chinese government said it will provide 100 to 200 teachers per year and helping train South African teachers for the next five years, depending on demand. Loan applications and disbursements are still being received and processed as the projects continue to evolve. Ongoing monitoring and evaluation are in place to ensure project continuity.
