Grant Description

On June 2, 2013, Chinese President Xi Jinping pledged to built one to two demonstration centers within the next three years to showcase agricultural technologies.

The pledge was made at a luncheon with leaders of Trinidad, Tobago, Suriname, Guyana, Dominica, Barbados, Jamaica, the Bahamas, Grenada, Antigua, and Barbuda.

This pledge resulted in a Memorandum of Understanding on December 10, 2014 between the University of the West Indies (UWI) and China Agricultural University (CAU) to establish a 200 acre Agricultural Innovation Park at UWI St. Augustine. Loan applications and disbursements are still being received and processed as the projects continue to evolve.

Ongoing monitoring and evaluation are in place to ensure project continuity.
