Grant Description

In June 2013, President Xi Jinping announced that China would send ophthalmologists to the Caribbean to conduct free cataract surgeries under the "Bright Journey" project.

The Bright Journey team consisted of 5 doctors and 3 nurses from Beijing Tongren Hospital who performed 200 cataract surgeries for Jamaican patients at Kingston Public Hospital. The project began on 18 May 2015 and ended on 28 May 2015. Loan applications and disbursements are still being received and processed as the projects continue to evolve.

Ongoing monitoring and evaluation are in place to ensure project continuity.
