Grant Description
On June 6, 2014, China signed an agreement committing a grant of FJD 1.42 million (around USD 800,000) to Fiji for the 2014 election.
The agreement was signed by Huang Yong, Chinese ambassador to Fiji and Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum, Fiji's acting prime minister, attorney- general, and minister responsible for elections.
Chinese Ambassador Huang Yong said, "the Chinese Government is willing to provide necessary assistance for the election." A total of FJD 1,449,770 was contributed to a grant fund set up for the 2014 election. Loan applications and disbursements are still being received and processed as the projects continue to evolve.
Ongoing monitoring and evaluation are in place to ensure project continuity.
