China sends Naval Peace Ark hospital ship to provide medical services to Fiji

On August 22, 2014, China's People's Liberation Army Navy hospital ship, Peace Ark (和平方舟), arrived at the Fijian capital, Suva, to begin its week-long medical assistance mission.

The assistance is part of China's "Mission Harmony- 2014" or "和谐使命—2014." The ship had 100 medical staff, including 22 specialists, who provided free medical services such as diagnosis and treatment of common and frequently-occurring diseases to the people of Fiji for one week. The ship has 300 beds, 8 operating rooms, and over 200 types of medical devices.

Loan applications and disbursements are still being received and processed as the projects continue to evolve. Ongoing monitoring and evaluation are in place to ensure project continuity.
