Grant Description

In January 2014, Category 5 Tropical Cyclone Ian struck the Ha’apai Group, displacing more than 5000 people and destroying over 800 homes.

On February 10,2014, the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Nuku’alofa confirmed that further assistance from the Chinese Government towards the relief efforts in Ha’apai would include a grant of USD $600,000 in cash. Loan applications and disbursements are still being received and processed as the projects continue to evolve.

Ongoing monitoring and evaluation are in place to ensure project continuity.
