China pledges to grant 200 million RMB to Pakistan following the July 2010 floods

In late July 2010, Pakistan experienced the worst floods in 80-years due to heavy monsoon rains and strong winds.

On September 6, 2010, the Chinese government pledged 200 million RMB to the Government of Pakistan for flood relief and humanitarian efforts.

Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Jiang Yu confirmed the massive donation on the evening of September 6, and Chinese Ambassador Liu Jian called Pakistan Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani to inform them about the Chinese government's decision.

As of September 17, 2010, "[d]iscussion with the Pakistani government on the specifics of the assistance is now under way". Loan applications and disbursements are still being received and processed as the projects continue to evolve. Ongoing monitoring and evaluation are in place to ensure project continuity.
