Grant Description

On December 19, 2014, Malawi and China signed an agreement for the provision of mobile solar power systems worth about K5 billion (US$10 million) to be used in the health sector in the country.

The signing was attended by the Minister of Finance Goodall Gondwe and the Chinese Ambassador to Malawi Zhang Qingyang who specified that the power system as intended to improve the country's health infrastructure in rural areas. This project was referred to as a donation by the Malawian Minister of Finance during the signing.

The equipment was officially handed over in June 2, 2015. Loan applications and disbursements are still being received and processed as the projects continue to evolve. Ongoing monitoring and evaluation are in place to ensure project continuity.
