Chinese Government provides a $35 million grant for Civil Service Hospital Construction Project (Linked to Record ID#53689 and #71751)

In May 2001, China and Nepal signed six agreements, including a $35 million grant agreement for the Civil Service Hospital Construction Project.

Construction was carried out by China Tiesiju Civil Engineering Group Co Ltd and project implementation began on September 22, 2004.

The hospital in Minbhawan, Kathmandu was built on a 27,650 square meter area with 22 buildings for both outpatient and inpatient needs.

It was constructed as a 132 bed-hospital with the capacity to hold 500 and will offer free to subsidized treatment to about 90,000 civil servants and their families.

China also provided the hospital with the latest technological equipment and continued providing assistance to the hospital. Loan applications and disbursements are still being received and processed as the projects continue to evolve. Ongoing monitoring and evaluation are in place to ensure project continuity.
