On 26 December 2004, a severe earthquake near the Indonesian island of Sumatra triggered an enormous tsunami in the Indian Ocean that hit many countries, including Sri Lanka. In response, the Chinese government sent three aid packages for tsunami relief to Sri Lanka.
This project captures the third batch consisting of 770 sets of gasoline generators, food, and medicine which all arrived in Sri Lanka on 15 January 2005. Loan applications and disbursements are still being received and processed as the projects continue to evolve. Ongoing monitoring and evaluation are in place to ensure project continuity.
