On April 18, 2005, the Chinese Government committed grant funding worth $241,166 grant for the construction of statues of leaders at Bandaranayake Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH).
One of the statues that was erected was of the world's first woman prime minister, Sirimavo Bandaranaike who died in 2000. Loan applications and disbursements are still being received and processed as the projects continue to evolve. Ongoing monitoring and evaluation are in place to ensure project continuity.
