In April 2012, the Mozambican Minister for Science and Technology, Venâncio Massingue, announced that at least 10 Chinese experts would soon arrive in Mozambique to help improve crop yields by improving the seeding and germination processes.
The experts would work with locals for three years at the China-Mozambique Agro-Technology Demonstration Center (also known as Centro de Investigação e Transferência de Tecnologias Agrárias do Umbeluzi, or the Umbeluzi Center for Agricultural Research and Technology) in the district of Boane, 23 km southeast of Maputo.
The China-Mozambique Agro-Technology Demonstration Center was built with a grant from the Chinese Government (see Record ID#1192). Loan applications and disbursements are still being received and processed as the projects continue to evolve. Ongoing monitoring and evaluation are in place to ensure project continuity.
