The purpose of the conference is to initiate a critical discussion of decoloniality and memory in the countries that belonged to the Soviet Union.
The conference will bring together scholars who work with two realms of studies: studies of memory and studies of decoloniality. It will be a unique possibility to gather scholars who are dealing with different countries of the region.
The conference will propose a critical discussion about the potentials and limitations of decolonial approach in the studies of memory.
Drawing on the concrete cases in post-1991 space the conference will focus on conceptual (re)-visioning of memory studies as a field in the given region.
If the “post” in the “post-Soviet” became outdated (as some critics claim), can we trace this outdatedness in the concrete examples of memory work? What does the decolonial approach give to the scholars of memory? How do we understand decolonization and decoloniality in the field of cultural and collective memory?
The scholars invited to the conference will come from different fields within memory studies which will enrich the discussion about the decolonial approach(es) and the concept of “decoloniality” as it is understood by different disciplines (history, literature, media and communication, etc.)
