Existing research indicates that ethnic parties are among the most electorally stable political actors in Eastern Europe. Similarly, their electorates are seen as the most organized, disciplined, and involved.
Whereas the discipline and voting preferences of ethnic groups have been intensely investigated, their involvement has not been properly studied.
This conference seeks to address this gap in the literature by inviting to a general discussion about political participation and the representation of ethnic minorities in Central and Eastern Europe, including the Baltics and the Balkans.
The conference addresses these topics from two different perspectives: the supply side of political parties and politicians who claim to represent and include ethnic minorities and migrants and the demand side of ethnic groups who participate and strive to be represented.
The conference (5-7 June 2023, at Södertörn University) will seek to attract a mix of established scholars, early-career researchers, and PhD students conducting research on post-communist Europe.
