Grant Description

The Health and Hygiene Activity will improve health, water, hygiene and sanitation conditions in five districts of the Mid-Western Region.

By addressing deficiencies in the water and electrical supply of health facilities, USAID will enable the improvement of infection prevention practices, cold chain systems and service delivery.

USAID will enhance the skills of health workers to deliver hygiene messages on improvement of community sanitation and fire safety; and reduce indoor air pollution.

USAID will also train these health care workers to improve their ability to educate community members on leading causes of maternal and child deaths related to WASH.

In coordination with Village WASH Coordination Committees, USAID will support community engagement in "open defecation free" and clean house campaigns, including the construction of public toilets and limited safe water supply improvements.
