Looking for Jeanne: bearing witness with film aims to 1. explore in larger local publics how film can both bear and generate new testimonies, 2. share the results of the research with communities and places to which it relates.
At the same time further strategies will be developed for how, a collective mourning process can be generated, through film, for a slow healing of wounds caused by the violence that society is currently suffering from.
Violence includes here both economic, social and physical violence. The artistic research project Looking for Jeanne aimed to, through practical film experiments based on a relational film method, explore the relationship between politics and aesthetics in moving image with a focus on how the film, via its aesthetics, can give rise to new political subjects connected to questions of feminized work, value, violence and resistance.
The project asked how we can understand film´s potential beyond its representational capacity and be used as an aesthetic tool to mobilize for a common mourning process. The research took place in close collaboration with communities, activists, artists and filmmakers who are part of and/or work with local feminist networks, with whom we now intend to organize screenings and discussions through the film on feminized work, violence, resistance and responsibilities in our present society.
We will collaborate with local communities, cultural and women’s centers, as well as local cinemas throughout Sweden
