This scoping review has been identified as needed to prequel research projects.
Collaboration has been established with Linköping Municipality and knowledge produced within this suggested study will be disseminated through the regional collaboration and support structure (RSS) where the R&D centre for care and social work is key actor, involving Linköping municipality and 12 other municipalities. The aim of this study is to search, map and analyse previous studies to synthesize existing evidence and knowledge about pedagogical approaches, and working methods for staff practice and how they relate to promotion of participation and influence for persons with intellectual disabilities within social services of housing and daily activity services aimed at the target group. The search strategy will follow the PI(C)O-S framework, (Population, Intervention, Control, if applicable, Outcome, and including Setting) and will be performed in with support from information specialists at the LiU library.
The studies included need to address people with intellectual disabilities, over the age of 18.
By-proxy studies are also included, as well as studies on perspective of staff or relatives, targeting impact on people with intellectual disabilities.
Studies will be included if they aim to address pedagogical approaches or working methods for staff practice with and for people with intellectual disabilities in the purpose to promote, enhance or enable participation and influence in their social services of housing or daily activity services. Studies from different research fields will be included.
This means the outcomes may differ and include aspects of rights-based outcomes of the pedagogical approaches and methods, outcomes of participation in meaningful activities and occupations, and assistive and digital devices as working methods.
An important outcome is how participation and influence are defined in the studies and if promotion is gained and how this is measured.
When synthesising the results all outcomes of the included studies will be presented and data extracted for “best practices”.
A delimited sub-study of the legal framework and how the concepts of participation and influence are defined and discussed in relevant legal material, including preparatory work and general comments etc serves as a foundation for the elaborated scoping research from the field.
