The network "Deafblindness from a multidisciplinary research perspective" consists of researchers at several universities in Sweden with a common interest in improving living conditions and quality of life for people with deafblindness.
The network strives to increase knowledge about people with deafblindness in society and their living conditions, as well as how for example, health care and other societal support from the municipality or state can be designed to meet the needs of the target group.
The network welcome professionals to participate in the network based on an expressed interest in research or planning for a future research career.
The network is interdisciplinary and consists of researchers with different professional and disciplinary backgrounds as well as different skills regarding qualitative and quantitative methods and knowledge of deafblindness.
The research carried out within the network crosses a range of aspects of living with deafblindness, including, but not limited to, health, family life, communication, and support.
Researchers in the network collaborate with the member organizations and other actors in the field to disseminate results from the research, as well as how these can be implemented in for example specialized support units that have the assignment of providing support and efforts to people with deafblindness.
A granted funding would substantially reinforce the network´s work to become a sustainable group over time and thus continue to be an important player in conducting research on deafblindness and increasing knowledge about deafblindness in society. Today, there is a lack of funding to work in a structured long-term way.
In total 437 340 SEK are applied to cover costs for physical meetings (travel, accommodation, food) as well as Swedish participation in a collaborative meeting with researchers within the North European Reserach Network for deafblindness. Costs relating to the closing seminar are also included in the budget.
