The Swedish national network for social science research on ageing and eldercare is a platform for collaboration among researchers working with a social perspective on ageing research in Sweden.
The network aims to develop research and education through cooperation in scientific publishing, subject development, and educational issues. Participation in policy development and debate on aging issues is another important task.
The network also takes responsibility for recruitment and professional development in the field, as well as providing support to researchers who are few or working alone in their local environments. The network currently consists of about 110 members from 20 universities and colleges across the country.
It is interdisciplinary, with the majority of researchers coming from social sciences but also including members from law, health sciences, and humanities.
All types of academic positions are represented, including professors, associate professors, lecturers, postdoctoral researchers, doctoral students, project assistants, and professionals in the aging field with research opportunities. The application pertains to funding for annual physical meetings from 2025 to 2027, similar to those successfully held between 2015 and 2022, which gathered 20-40 participants.
The application also seeks funding for the production of a scientific anthology on the theme of ageism and human rights, in collaboration with researchers in law and health sciences.A smaller sum is requested for member-initiated activities, i.e., activities that members of the network strongly wish to hold.During the period, a conference is planned in collaboration with the Swedish Gerontological Society (SGS) and the interdisciplinary research school SWEAH’s alumni network (SAIN), along with additional activities related to education and policy issues, though no funding is sought for these in this application.
