Grant Description

In recent years, research on sedentary behavior and physical activity has undergone significant change.

Today it is possible to directly measure these behaviors with technical instruments, such as accelerometers, that provide more accurately the extent of (in)activity in the society than previous self-assessment methodsIn the Nordic countries, there are several prominent research groups dedicated to further develop these measurement methods, with a particular focus on practical applications.

As the research is relatively new, it is developing rapidly.

For Swedish research environments, it is of great importance that this excellence in measurement methodology is also available in Sweden. The Nordic research groups have formed a network that organizes regular two-day conferences.

The current conference includes a pre-conference workshop for participants who want to learn more about a method for measuring physical (in)activity (ActiPASS) partly developed within the framework of the forte funded program Balanced and sustainable working life of the future - Models and methods for developing and supporting sustainable health throughout life.

The conference brings together young and senior researchers from different disciplines such as engineers, programmers, epidemiologists and health scientists.

The focus is particularly on methodology and application for measuring health-promoting activity patterns in working life and leisure time.

There is an established collaboration with the FORTE-funded program: The WORK TOGETHER program: Using a systems approach to update an occupational health service and reduce the health gap at GIH.

Occupational and environmental medicine was a co-applicant.This will be the seventh conference and it will be organized by Occupational and Environmental Medicine, Department of Medical Sciences, Uppsala University, in collaboration with the Academy of Health and Working Life, Department of Occupational Health at the University of Gävle.
