The Biodiversity2Drugs project operates within a comprehensive experimental framework that places strong emphasis on the sustainable and responsible exploration of terrestrial and aquatic peptide resources for human health benefit.
This framework is built upon the recognition that nature boasts rich biodiversity, encompassing a vast array of organisms, from bacteria to mammals, which have evolved a wide range of bioactive peptides.
To tackle these questions, a diverse group of scientists are teamed-up from 15 academic research institutions in 13 countries, including Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Denmark, France, Italy, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and The Netherlands.
This team is complemented by 10 self-financed partners from 5 countries, including Australia, India, Germany, the UK and the USA.
Many of our consortium members previously successfully collaborated in bilateral projects or European networks such as the EU COST networks ERNEST (CA18133) and EUVEN (CA19144), as well as the EU FP7 Venomics project and the international Venoms2Drugs network.
