Growing Resilience by Exploring Methods to Enhance Urban Agriculture for Human Well-being, Community and Biodiversity Enrichment

Urban Agriculture (UA) addresses various societal challenges including climate change, public health, and food security, making it a crucial urban Nature-based Solution. However, many UAs are vulnerable due to small scale and limited long-term relevance.

GREENHANCEnbt aims to understand factors influencing successful UA implementation, focusing on human health, well-being, and biodiversity.

Adopting a Nature-Based Thinking (NBT) perspective, we study the interplay between UA, biodiversity, and human well-being.

Examining Barcelona, Malmö, and Turin, we explore: 1) synergies and trade-offs in biodiversity enhancement and human well-being through UA practices, 2) interactions between urban communities engaged in UA and nature, and 3) governance arrangements and stakeholder engagement during UA implementation.

The Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU) will lead as project coordinator, integrating diverse disciplines into research and overseeing the governance and stakeholder engagement studies. Additionally, SLU will lead the analysis of trade-offs between biodiversity enhancement and human well-being.

The Malmo case study in Botildenborg, renowned for its innovative and inclusive UA practices, will provide valuable insights, which will be shared with the consortium and beyond.

The project´s findings will inform urban planning, policy development, biodiversity conservation, and stakeholder engagement, advancing Nature-Based Solutions.
