Research QuestionThe overall research question of the project: How can a co-created model for patient participation in the collaboration of healthcare and social interventions for and with women with comorbidity experiencing homelessness be designed based on a person-centered approach and consideration of organizational conditions?Study-specific objectives focus on:Perceptions, motivations, and application of patient participation in coordinated care.Conditions for patient participation in collaboration from individual, group, and organizational perspectives.BIKVA method for a co-created model for patient involvement in coordinated care.Data and MethodThe project has a qualitative, exploratory, and co-creative design using a modified version of the BIKVA method (BrugerIndragelse i KVAlitetsvurderung) and data from:Focus group interviews and interviews with healthcare and social service personnel.Interviews and observations of SIP meetings (coordinated individual plans) with women with comorbidity experiencing homelessness.Document analysis.Societal Relevance and UtilityWomen experiencing homelessness are one of society´s most vulnerable groups with a significant need for coordinated efforts from welfare institutions to access basic social rights but are often met with paternalism.
A co-created model for patient participation based on the needs of the target group contributes to Agenda 2030 and the goal of participation regardless of an individual´s ability and social position.
The knowledge generated in the project is of interest to research, units within healthcare and social services addressing the target group, as well as a broader audience of individuals with complex problems in need of co-created interventions from welfare institutions.ImplementationThe project, utilizing the BIKVA method, involves multi-year data collection (year 1 and 2), forming the basis for discussions with the Women Advisory Board (WAB) at regular and scheduled meetings throughout the project period.
Year 3 focuses on establishing evaluation criteria for the model of patient participation and sharing results through scientific articles, popular science pieces, and AI-generated podcasts.
Strong feasibility is ensured through collaborations between Marie Cederschiöld´s University, Women Advisory Board (WAB), Capio Vård för hemlösa Pelarbacken, Homeless Unit, Social Administration Stockholm City, and civil society organizations Convictus and Ersta Möjlighet.
