Why do some circular business models succeed while seemingly similar others do not?
Transitioning towards a circular economy can help address environmental challenges by encouraging resource-efficient production and consumption.
Circular business models (CBMs) are crucial in this shift, as effective CBMs viably align customer needs with circular economy strategies like product life extension and material recovery. However, knowledge gaps exist regarding CBM implementation. Empirical research highlights success stories, contributing to a potential bias in scientific literature.
Customer perspectives are underresearched, yet their acceptance is critical to CBM adoption.
In-depth comparisons of specific CBMs, especially in different countries, are also lacking. This project address these gaps by examining similar CBMs in diverse geographic settings, including Sweden, the Netherlands, Spain, and the USA.
The project conducts comparative case studies, integrating company and customer perspectives, aiming to identify key factors influencing the adoption of CBM offers.
The project facilitates the researcher’s professional growth by expanding her international network, develops knowledge on a topic of high importance to Swedish firms, and fosters global knowledge sharing via diverse dissemination methods.
In turn, the project expands academic and practical knowledge of sustainable business practices, thus supporting the circular transition.
