Research questionIn a world where intimate partner violence remains a pervasive global challenge, seven years have passed since the initiation of the Swedish ten-year strategy to combat this issue.
However, a significant knowledge gap persists, particularly concerning the economic dimensions of such violent relationships.
Our research addresses this gap and the aim of this study is to explore discourses on household economy, economic violence, and the economic consequences of intimate partner violence from an intersectional perspective and thereby develop the field theoretically.Data and Method The study design is qualitative, exploratory, intersectional, and comparative.
It consists of two sub-studies, where the first involves focus group interviews with men and women divided into groups based on socioeconomic background according to their highest level of education.
The focus groups are intended to enable participants to express norms about household economy together with relative strangers with whom they have no social ties. In the second sub-study, the project will examine the experiences of economically abused women.
Finally, theoretical development will occur by refining the meanings of existing concepts related to the significance and content of economic violence.Societal Relevance and Utilization This study will provide a knowledge contribution that can enable faster detection of violence and vulnerability.
Through greater understanding of signals, expressions, and variations of economic violence, the project is expected to contribute to knowledge for professionals working with vulnerable groups and to improve preventive efforts.Implementation The project is conducted by three researchers in close collaboration.
The researchers have expertise in methods and theories and have previously conducted research in the field. The budgeted costs for the project primarily cover funding for the researchers´ work efforts.
Funds are sought for data collection, reference groups (one scientific and one operational), language editing, and dissemination of results.
The project will be reported through various channels including articles, reports, popular science texts, and texts in easy Swedish, as well as orally through professional organizations, networks, social media, and the press.
