Grant Description

Plasma Observatory (PO) is a ESA M7 candidate that aims to study the plasma energization and energy transport in the near-Earth plasma environment. The mission proposes 7 spacecraft to be able to resolve ion and fluid scales simultaneously.

The PO science and instrument teams ask for numerical simulation support which I can provide with the hybrid-kinetic plasma model Amitis.

Amitis, a hybrid-kinetic simulation capable of modeling the Earth-solar wind interaction in three dimensions at realistic scales, using kinetic ions and fluid electrons.

Amitis bridges fluid and ion kinetic dynamics by resolving both scales and can therefore be used to model and predict observations of plasma phenomena that will be made by Plasma Observatory.
