The Center for Geometry and Physics is an interdisciplinary center with purpose to bring together researchers in theoretical physics (physics) and geometry (pure mathematics).
Both fields have seen an immense development over the last decades, largely due to an increased exchange of theories and ideas.
Our proposal is a center that facilitates this development and creates a new environment for the interaction between geometry and theoretical physics, with a focus on the latest cutting-edge topics of the international scientific community.
The center will facilitate interactions between leading experts in mathematics and physics to help develop their respective disciplines beyond the current state of the art.
It will also develop education across the two disciplines by bringing advanced mathematics topics to the physics community and introduce physics ideas to the mathematics community. The center will be an instrument of synergy and change that will shape the future of both disciplines.
The concrete scientific starting point for the center is to develop and expand the following three distinct but interconnected core areas, each represented by the diverse and interdisciplinary expertise of the researchers involved: non-perturbative quantum field theory and enumerative geometry, category-theoretic invariants in symplectic topology and theoretical physics, and topological phases of matter and categories of topological defects.
