Grant Description

IFAU and UCLS plan to organize research meetings on Education and Human Capital on June 19-22, 2023. The meetings have two parts.

The first part is a conference which provides an opportunity for researchers to present and discuss research on economics of education, education policy and human capital formation, and offers participants mentoring sessions with prominent invited researchers with extensive insight into the international research frontier and experience as editors at international journals.

The second part is to host the first meeting of the Family and Education Workshop (FEW) Network to be held outside of the USA.

These IFAU Education meetings are the first in IFAU´s long term plan of hosting meetings of the same type every, second year,  in the areas of research where IFAU is active, i.e. education, labor market policy, the funktioning of the labor market, and social insurance policy. The opening conference´s two keynote speeches and a panel discussion will elaborate on the whereabouts of the research frontier in quantitative education research, identify outstanding relevant reseach topics, and discuss how education policy can contribute to more equal life chances.

We plan for seven 40-minute presentations and eight shorter 15-minute presentations of contributed and invited papers. There will be a discussant for each paper.

The conference program provides time for conversations and mentor meetings so as to make the best possible use of the invited top international researchers, of which several have already confirmed their participation.

They will share their research, but also give advice on how to improve the participants´ research and increase its policy relevance and impact in the research world. The following FEW meeting allows network members to test and discuss preliminary research ideas.

Organizing this meeting in Sweden also provides an opportunity to expand the network with Swedish researchers and to establish research collaborations.
