Grant Description

In November of 2006, China provided a $5 million grant to Liberia.

The exact purpose of the grant is undecided, but it is related to the MoU that was signed allowing Chinese engineers to explore for offshore oil and possible mineral reserves. The MOU also outlined the development of a free trade zone at the Atlantic Ocean Port of Buchanan. Loan applications and disbursements are still being received and processed as the projects continue to evolve.

Ongoing monitoring and evaluation are in place to ensure project continuity.
