Data security and counterfeiting of valuable documents, products, or currency is a global problem that challenges industry, governments and customers. On the other hand, information technology plays a paramount role in our society.
In this context, the demand for new materials able to improve over the conventional materials used for these applications has increased considerably. The project LUMIMOF aims at developing novel luminescent metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) at the nanometer level (nano-MOFs) to be used in anti-counterfeiting applications and in logic computing gates.
The tuneable nature of MOFs through rational design allows for new materials, which can be judiciously tailored toward a variety of applications.
Specifically, lanthanide-based metal organic frameworks (LnMOFs) are excellent candidates for this project because of the exceptional luminescence properties of Ln3+ ions.Additionally, I will develop LnMOFs printing techniques, in order to use these materials as luminescent security inks and as logic computing gates.LUMIMOF will provide knowledge on methodology to obtain nano-LnMOFs as well as, on the luminescence properties of these MOFs in order to synthesize materials with useful applications for industry and society.
