Renewal MI second generation- from restorative to pulp regeneration material

During my PhD, I have developed Renewal MI, a novel filling for children`s teeth, with children and dentists’ input. It is easy and quick to use, overcoming the limitations of current filling materials. Watching the real effect of my research on children`s dental experience during clinical trials was touching.

I have sensed the real impact of my research.

My journey with Prof Young and Prof Ashley has been nothing but enlightening, with unlimited support, endless opportunities and a steep learning curve.

As a group we were instrumental taking the material from concept to PPI then to lab and finally clinical trials and regulatory approvals.

In the UK, baby teeth with deep dental decay reaching the nerve are normally extracted (mostly under general anaesthetic) at an early age.

Renewal MI unique properties has the potential of making it nerve-friendly and therefore extending its applications from restoring small decay to more extensively affected teeth.

The proposed research may provide a material which might enable dentists and therapists globally to more easily fill those teeth, relieving children’s pain, reducing referrals to specialty hospitals and reducing teeth extractions.

Data will support a new safety clinical trial and applications might be extended to adult teeth benefiting more patients and dental specialties.

With more than 7-year experience in this topic and extensive support network, I am the ideal researcher in the ideal environment to take this product further. This project intertwines my clinical and academic skills, achieving my desire to improve children`s experience.
