A new type of electric machine has recently been invented by Anders Hagnestål. The machine uses the same type of materials as standard machines but works in a different way. It can be used both as a motor and generator, and performs very well even at low speeds.
Thereby, it may have a large impact in many applications, e.g. wind power, since such a direct drive electrical machine has the potential to become many times smaller than today’s technology and could be more low cost.
Calculations indicate that it also could reach a very high efficiency, around 98-99% for wind power, which is several % better than today’s technology. Thereby, the machine is predicted to reduce LCOE of e.g. onshore wind power by as much as 10%. The technical principle has been verified in an experimental setup.
In this project, the patent portfolio will be further developed. The funding will be used to pay for patent fees.
