The Swedish Energy Agency funds the project based on its potential to create beneficial conditions in the Swedish energy system.

The project offers a novel way of gaining more insights into the complexity on how existing energy firms implement innovations of which some are radical compared to the firms’ existing competence base or market conditions.

The project aims to explore the complexity by conducting a qualitative comparative analysis of a set of 20-50 Swedish local incumbent energy firms that have adopted or rejected radical innovations.

The analysis enables a systematic approach that can offer several combinations of factors that indicate successful paths for diverse local energy incumbents.
